Inis Meáin documentary with Ceri Garfield (Ep. 33)

Killarney - Learn Irish

Inis Meáin is a small island off Ireland’s Atlantic west coast. It’s a strong Gaeltacht area, where the Irish language is spoken.

Ceri Garfield spent five months with Máire Pháidín on the island, who is a “legend” on the island. The documentary will be called “Cé hÍ Máire Pháidín?” (which means, “Who Is Máire Pháidín?”).

(Are you looking for the episode with Elena Clancy instead? That will be published as Episode 034 two weeks after this episode is published. Sorry for the confusion.)

What you’ll hear

  • The beauty of Inis Meáin of the Aran Islands, and its cultural richness
  • Máire Pháidín – she traveled to Boston in the 1960s where she learned her English
  • Ceri will be filming a documentary on Máire Pháidín, and is looking for your suppor

  1. Hi Eoin,

Cé h Máire Pháidin looks fascinating – will you advertise when it is ready for sale or pre-order when it is commercially available. I had pre-ordered a copy of Banished Women before I started Gaeilge lessons – wasn’t I surprised and pleased a year later when it is mostly in Irish. Another interesting ABC DVD 2007 is: “The Catalpa Rescue the extraordinary story of the daring rescue of 6 Irish rebels from a notoriously brutal penal colony in Fremantle, West Australia in 1876.” Sadly though it is all in English – well done even so. Great podcasts, go raibh maith agat. J

  2. Hi Eoin!

I was just listening this episode and before I listened until the end, I already planned to share it by #CelticThursday tomorrow 😉
#CelticThursday is invented by Marc Gunn to promote Irish and Celtic culture. So everyone who use social network pages can use this hashtag on Thursdays to share anything Irish or Celtic. Some music, website, podcast, some news or pictures from Ireland, whatever you want to share to show your attention.
