The layers of patterns found on the rocks at Brú na Bóinne (Newgrange) have fascinated me for years.

The patterns on the ancient stones speak to something eternal within us. The triangles, lozenges or diamonds and spirals dance as if they linger in the night sky itself.

This ancient art speaks to an eternal or archetypal part of us. It connects this very moment with deep cosmic time. The art possibly speaks to wild visions of another reality, and to the cycles of time.

Our language, Gaeilge, has the ability to do this too. Speaking Irish every day links us to this very moment, and grounds us in an ancient deeper wisdom that reaches way back into our pre-history.

Our language and cultural journeys are not linear. They are deepening spirals that slowly connect to something very meaningful.

The journey of Gaeilge itself is a complicated one, a journey that spans millennia. The language’s story today is vibrant and alive.

The Irish language is experiencing a renaissance of positive energy. It’s an inclusive journey that is rooted in the land in Ireland, and is open to anyone of any background willing to connect positively and authentically with its wisdom.

Irish draws us closer together, draws us closer to authenticity and draws us closer to the natural world.

Bitesize Irish has now been running for fifteen years, having made our first announcement in August 2010.

Our mission is simple:

Cabhrú le daoine an Ghaeilge a fhoghlaim, a chleachtadh agus a úsáid le chéile gach lá.
Help people learn, practice and use the Irish language together every day.

Our motto is simple:

Gaeilge Gach Lá
(Irish Every Day)

Gaeilge Gach Lá is an approach of continuous connection and deepening. It’s a way of letting the language into our daily lives, our identities. It’s about using the language now, today, with those who are willing. It drops the need for perfection

Sea, is fearr Gaeilge bhriste ná Béarla cliste, agus is féidir leat a bheith ag cur snas ar do chuid Gaeilge.

From the beginning, it was clear to me that the language journey is a series of small bite-sized steps. It took a few years to settle on the Gaeilge Gach Lá motto, but since 2019 it’s been a clear lens of what Bitesize Irish is all about for you.

The Gaeilge Gach Lá graphic is etched from stone from Múchán hill fort in Co. Clare (where I’ve been visiting over the span of most of my lifetime).

Our values are simple:

Irish, contemporary, helpful, playful, connected and community.

We would not be here without the deep trust and support of our customers and wider community. Go raibh maith agaibh, a chairde. You know who you are.

To mark our fifteen years, we are proudly declaring a unique Bitesize Irish design that’s here to stay.

Bitesize Irish

Grounded by our longstanding logo that’s inspired by old Irish road signs (designed by Lucia Pola), I’ve worked on creating a visual language with the rough lozenge (diamond). It’s a living example of the Irish language renaissance that’s continually evolving through community.

The lozenge is the ancient diamond carved into stone for millennia. Each lozenge is a gateway into different aspects of the Irish language. Each one is a proud declaration for every person looking to practice Gaeilge Gach Lá.

Each emergent lozenge pattern is inspired by the cyclical nature of our language journeys and the seasonality of our lives.

Our updated look is a declaration of being right here in this very moment, whilst also connecting us with deep time and ancient wisdom.

This is our stake in the ground. Ancient wisdom meeting contemporary design, all in service of your Gaeilge Gach Lá journey.

Thanks for being here on the journey so far, a chairde.

Gaeilge Gach Lá.
