Iowa Irish Gaelic Immersion Weekend

Irish Immersion Weekends play an important role in making the Irish language known to people who may want to learn more about it. They can take place all over the World, but most of them are organized in the United States, thanks to the strong connection between the two countries, and their people.

During an Irish Immersion Weekend, people can get in contact with Irish Gaelic, they can learn new things about the Irish culture, and they can start strengthening the connection to their Irish heritage. Another recommended way to connect to your Irish heritage is to start learning the Irish language.

For people that are already learning Irish, immersion weekends are a great chance to practice the language, if they don’t have other opportunities to test their Irish language level.

Iowa Irish Gaelic Immersion Weekend

Iowa Irish, a group of volunteer organizations dedicated to promoting the Irish language, will hold their Annual Irish Language and Culture Weekend at Coe College, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on 8th – 10th June 2018.

The workshop will include Irish language classes at all levels, from beginner to advanced, taught by native Irish speakers. Participants will be immersed in the language, and even outside of class time, there will be music, games, and other activities all aimed at helping students to learn Irish.

This will be the fourth year the event is held, and already there is much interest from students of past weekend courses. Wayne Shannon, Workshop Director and co-founder, has been impressed with the early response.

“People are eager to come back to us. They have enjoyed their experience at a previous immersion course, and can’t wait to do it again,” Shannon said. “The past three years have shown us that there is a keen interest in Irish in the Midwest, and we look forward to this event continuing on well into the future.”
