Crack Irish pronunciation

If you’ve considered learning the Irish language, one of the first things that may have thrown you off was how the Irish language is pronounced.

If you’re a learner, in Irish we say you’re a “foghlaimeoir“. But how would you even go about pronouncing that word? How would you break down a relatively simple word such as “talamh” (ground)?

The truth is that Irish is written usually exactly as it sounds. It’s just that it follows a different set of rules for how spoken sounds are represented by letters of the alphabet.

If you have a way of checking those pronunciation rules, then you have a key for cracking Irish Gaelic pronunciation.

There are two steps for figuring out how a certain word is pronounced: break it down into groups of vowels and consonants, and then figure out how each group should be pronounced. When you flow them all together, you’ll have the approximate pronunciation for that word.

We have just the tool for this. Our newly-launched Pronunciation Cheat Sheets for Irish Gaelic PDF will guide to through this process. The ebook contains:

  • A four-step pronunciation cheat sheet method, with illustrated examples.
  • Four cheat sheets for vowel pronunciation.
  • Nine cheat sheets for consonant pronunciation.

Our members got an advanced sneak preview of the cheat sheets. Here’s what they had to say:

“I thought it was great, thank you!” – Dawn

“Way too cheap!” – Tig

“You can practice them anytime.” – Robin

“My class started using it.” – Jody

Now’s your chance to grab a copy of the cheat sheets.
