Stepping into the Light of Áine: A Reflection on Our Summer Workshop
Last night in An Ciorcal Beo, we gathered to honour Áine—goddess of summer, fertility, and sovereignty—whose presence shimmers through the land around Lough Gur and Knockainey. Through gentle myth, shared reflection, and Irish language practice, we traced Áine’s story from the bonfires of Oíche Fhéile Eoin to the mythic feminine glowing in the hills.
The workshop opened with a beautiful short talk by member Sandra who spoke about the Harvest Knot, and its connection to Lúnasa (which comes at the end of summer).
The workshop invited members to read and respond to Áine’s tale—not just as a historical curiosity, but as a living archetype. In the landscape, she is the light in the belly of the hill, the sovereignty of the land itself. As Manchán Magan writes, she is not up in the sky like a solar goddess—we meet her in the earth, in the body, and in our own rhythms of change and becoming.

Through breakout rooms, readings, and shared stories, we asked:
- 🌱 What is growing in you this summer?
- 🔥 What fire is burning in your heart?
- 🌿 What small shift is unfolding in your life?
These questions held space for each voice to be heard—and for something ancient to echo forward through language and imagination.
If you feel called to explore your Irish learning in this mythically alive and human way, come join us in An Ciorcal Beo. It’s more than a class—it’s a monthly gathering that weaves language, story, and soul practice into a living circle.
