Limerick, 1st April 2023

Dia dhaoibh, a chairde!

We have some incredibly shocking news to share with you all on this fine first of April! It seems the world of language learning has been turned upside down, as OpenAI’s artificial intelligence has finally taken over the job of learning Irish. Say goodbye to your flashcards and grammar books, because we are now officially obsolete!

That’s right, folks! You can now retire from your lifelong journey of learning Gaeilge, as the AI has it all covered. In fact, it has become so proficient in the language that it can even write this newsletter for us! So, it is with a heavy heart (and a slight sigh of relief) that we announce our early retirement. Go raibh maith agat, OpenAI!

In fact, the AI is so advanced that it can do more than just learn Irish. Here’s a list of some of its other “accomplishments”:

  1. It can now tell the difference between “craic” and “crack” in context, a skill that has eluded many of us humans for years.
  2. The AI has perfected the Irish accent, so much so that it could easily pass as a native speaker from any corner of Ireland. We’re looking at you, Siri.
  3. It can now engage in a full-on debate about the merits of Tayto vs. King crisps, all while sipping on a perfectly poured pint of Guinness.
  4. It has even mastered the art of Irish dancing and can pull off a flawless Riverdance routine. (We’re still waiting for video evidence of this one, though!)

But don’t worry, dear learners! We’re only joking! We know that there’s no substitute for the passion, dedication, and love that you all have for the Irish language. Plus, let’s face it: no AI could ever match the camaraderie and craic we have together as we navigate the beautiful world of Gaeilge.

So, keep on learning, keep on laughing, and most importantly, never stop enjoying the journey. It’s true that AI might be getting smarter every day, but it will never be able to replace the unique experience that comes with learning a language like Irish.

Slán go fóill, agus ná bíodh eagla ort – we’ll still be here for you, every step of the way!

Your ever-devoted and still-human Bitesize Irish Team 💚

P.S. Don’t forget to laugh today – it’s good for the soul! Leave a reply below!
